Description

A classic American sandwich made with a savory, slightly sweet ground beef mixture served on a soft bun.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 green bell pepper, finely chopped
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 4 hamburger buns

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet, cook the ground beef over medium heat until browned. Drain excess fat.
  2. Add onion and green bell pepper to the skillet. Cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
  3. Stir in ketchup, tomato paste, brown sugar, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper.
  4. Simmer for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  5. Toast the hamburger buns lightly if desired.
  6. Spoon the beef mixture onto the buns and serve warm.

Notes

  • For a spicier version, add a pinch of red pepper flakes.
  • You can substitute ground turkey for a leaner option.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
